The calling of the Methodist Church is to respond to the gospel of God’s love in Christ and to live out its discipleship in worship and mission.

Our Calling (Mission Statement)

The Church exists to:

  • Increase awareness of God’s presence and to celebrate God’s love
  • Help people to grow and learn as Christians, through mutual support and care
  • Be a good neighbour to people in need and to question injustice
make more followers of Jesus Christ

In partnership with others wherever possible, the Methodist Church will concentrate its prayers, resources, imagination and commitments on this priority: to proclaim and affirm its conviction of God’s love in Christ for us and for all the world; and renew confidence in God’s presence and action in the world in the Church.

As ways towards realising this priority, the Methodist Church will give particular attention to the following:

  • Underpinning everything we do with God-centred worship and prayer
  • Supporting community development and action for justice, especially among the most deprived and poor - in Britain and worldwide
  • Developing confidence in evangelism and in the capacity to speak of God and faith in ways that make sense to all involved
  • Encouraging fresh ways of being Church

Pastoral Care

Cullercoats Methodist Church has a strong pastoral network, which exists to aid communication between its members and leaders and to ensure the spiritual and practical welfare of individuals within the church.

Members of the church are assigned a pastoral visitor who calls to see them regularly. It is an opportunity for individuals to talk about where they are in their spiritual journey, and for the pastoral visitor to encourage them to move on in their faith as well as to help with any practical needs.

We have a Pastoral Priority Visiting Team, an Emergency Visiting Team and a Bereavement Visitors Team as well as an active team of Pastoral Visitors and Cell Group Leaders.

Solidarity with the Persecuted

We are a partner Church with Open Doors, an organisation committed to serving those who are being persecuted because they are Christians.

We aim to encourage and support our suffering brothers and sisters by sharing their stories and praying not just for them but with them. We also aim to complement the power of prayer with advocacy, enabling their voice to be heard through petitions and writing to MPs etc.

.

Yearly we join with thousands of churches around the world in the International Day of Prayer.

This year we are marking this on Sunday 28th November at the 10.45 am service and at 6.00 pm with a Night Lights for Syria vigil.
